Before returning to Hong Kong in 2020, Serene passed through Dutch nature admiring openness, freedom, and fresh air. She captured these moments through the lens of an analog camera. We see trees, we see air, can feel the freshness.

Upon arriving in Hong Kong in the midst of the covid-19 pandemic, she had to spend almost 3 weeks in a mandatory quarantine hotel in the backlands of Kowloon island. From her isolation, she looked out to the grey and grim surroundings, caught in a claustrophobic room with nowhere to go. Once again the lens caught these feelings, but the dias had not changed.

The result is a dreamy double image, portraying openness, and simultaneously creating a feeling of isolation, imprisonment, and confined space.
